In 2016 I took over the reins of the long-established accountancy practice, Smart & Co, from David Smart (who founded the practice in 1990), having joined David as a trainee in 1999, and becoming partner in 2013.
In 2023, my younger brother Robert joined as partner to expand the practice, and Smart Accountants Sussex and Surrey was created!
I am proud and pleased to be working alongside Robert, not only because we have very complementary skills and are now able to cover a much broader geographical area, but also because we enjoy each other’s company and get to spend a lot of time together!
Our ongoing vision for the practice is to uphold our traditional values of client care and service, whilst offering a modern approach, embracing technology and constantly improving the service we deliver to our clients.
With over 40+ years’ accounting and taxation experience between us, gained with clients of all sizes and across many sectors, we offer a broad range of services to individual and corporate clients alike and will be happy to tailor a plan to suit your specific needs and budget.
Matthew is a FMAAT qualified accountant. Having worked for small and medium businesses since 1999, in 2013 he got the opportunity to fulfil his dream of becoming partner and then taking over full control in 2016. Matt enjoys getting to really know his clients. By providing the right solutions, they can then focus on what matters to them. Away from work, Matthew is a self-confessed movie geek – particularly of Marvel films– and he loves relaxing with his family.
Morgan joined the practice in September 2025 as an apprentice. He is currently working towards his AAT qualifications but has plans to become a chartered accountant in the future. Morgan enjoys communicating with clients and seeks opportunities to learn and develop as he gains experience in the industry.
Outside of the office, Morgan enjoys spending time in the gym training as a competitive powerlifter, having broken multiple records in recent years. This has allowed him to travel across the globe to South Africa, where he represented his country and became a Commonwealth Champion in 2024.
Aimee recently joined the team summer 2026 to help client bookkeeping and payroll after spending 24 years as a hairdresser. With all of her children now in high school, she felt it was the perfect time to take on a new challenge and begin a new career. She is excited to learn, grow, and be part of such a supportive team.
When she is not at work, she enjoy running, going for walks with my dog, Cooper, and spending time outdoors with all her family.
Russell qualified with the Chartered Insurance Institute and since 2004 has worked with a range of firms including multinational insurance companies, national advice firms and local independent practices. As an IFA he is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. In his spare time Russell is an avid cook and enjoys spending time with his family and dog by the coast.
