Job Title: Bookkeeper & Office Administrator

Location: Dorking (minimum 60% office-based)
Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 per annum pro-rata (depending on experience and hours, with scope to increase as responsibilities grow)
Hours: Part-time, approximately 20–25 hours per week

 

About the Firm

We are a small, growing full-service accounting firm supporting a range of UK clients. Our services include bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, tax advice, company statutory accounts and management accounts.

We operate a modern, cloud-based approach, primarily using Xero, with a strong focus on efficiency, organisation and high-quality client service.

The Role

This is a combined bookkeeping and administrative role suited to someone who is organised, proactive and comfortable managing a varied workload.

You will be responsible for both client-facing bookkeeping work and the day-to-day running of the office, working closely with the Surrey partner. This provides real exposure to how a full accounting practice operates.

The role will evolve over time, with opportunities to take on increased responsibility as the firm grows.

 

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping

  • Maintaining client bookkeeping records using Xero
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Assisting with payroll processing

 

Administration & Office Support

  • Company secretarial duties
  • Sending accounts and documents to clients for approval and signature
  • Chasing clients for outstanding information and signed documents
  • General office administration and organisation
  • Supporting internal processes and workflow management
  • Managing incoming and outgoing post
  • Assisting with system improvements and automation

 

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working in an office environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Experience handling client communications and general administrative tasks
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills with a professional client manner
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently and think through issues before escalating
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while recognising when to seek guidance

 

Desirable

  • Previous bookkeeping experience (practice experience preferred)
  • Experience using Xero or similar cloud accounting software
